The ASA has launched the Industry Front Door, a dedicated new platform hosting information and opportunities for Australian business to contribute to Australia’s conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarine capability.
The Industry Front Door, is making it easier for Australian industry to tap into a multi‑billion dollar, multi-decade opportunity in support of AUKUS and Australia’s submarine industrial base to build, operate and maintain our future conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines. There are significant opportunities for Australian industry, including:
- Ongoing sustainment of Australia’s six Collins class submarines;
- Participation in United Kingdom and United States submarine supply chains;
- Support for sustainment of United Kingdom and United States submarines rotating through Australia as part of Submarine Rotational Force-West;
- Support for sustainment of Australian Virginia class submarines; and
- The build and sustainment of SSN-AUKUS submarines.
Australia’s AUKUS Submarine Industry Strategy, launched in March 2025(Opens in a new tab/window), provides greater clarity to industry on how to enter AUKUS supply chains. The Strategy is underpinned by an investment of $262 million to support local defence industry uplift as part of Australia’s AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine program announced earlier this year.
The Strategy sets out five critical lines of effort to boost Australian industry uplift:
- Creating demand clarity for industry;
- Boosting investment attractiveness in critical areas;
- Simplifying regulation;
- Growing the skilled workforce; and
- Integrating Australian industry into US and UK supply chains.
The Industry Front Door, is designed to provide the support to businesses – especially small and medium-sized enterprises – across Australia, with sufficient information and lead times needed to develop the required capability. The initiative aims to clearly communicate which product and service categories are priorities for Australian supply, supporting local industry in becoming ‘Defence ready’.
Through a dedicated webpage and centralised email service, Australian defence suppliers can now access tailored guidance and key points of contact for various Government programs, Australia’s shipbuilding and sustainment partners, as well as overseas primes.
Australia’s conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarine program will support thousands of jobs and underpin $30 billion in investment in industry uplift, including shipyard infrastructure, workforce uplift and other enablers.
The contribution of Australian companies to AUKUS partners’ submarine supply chains will leverage the existing strengths of Australian suppliers and help to ease pressure and boost submarine production capacity in UK and US industry.
The Office of Defence Industry Support (ODIS)(Opens in a new tab/window) will remain the primary point of contact for all general defence industry inquiries.
